About The Kitchen Salon
The Kitchen Salon was initially founded in 2007 from a need for information about natural hair care. The name Kitchen refers to the place in the home where many young girls got their hair done by their mothers, grandmothers and aunts. It also refers to the curliest hair, most often found at the nape of the neck. Salon is referring to room in a home for gathering-often found in French Culture and is homage to time living in Louisiana, whose history is connected to Canada and France.
Going natural in 1998, Megan Smith- Davis, was a part of a group of women that embarked on their natural hair journey together in New Orleans, LA. When she returned to Ohio, she continued to share the information she learned by connecting with women locally and inspiring them to embrace their natural hair.
This website was originally created in 2007. First, offering hundreds of articles and research for everything from hair loss, to hair and politics, style techniques, news stories, recipes, then adding other natural hair resources. Today the focus is on education and handmade products created by The Kitchen Salon.
