Products (Overuse & Wrong Products).
There is such a thing as using too many products at once or too much of a product at one time. Products that are mass produced contain ingredients that help them hold their shelf life. Various amounts of parfums, colors and alcohols can make the hair very dry. Be mindful of the ingredients in each product and know that products made for relaxed hair don’t always work for natural hair. Your natural hair produces oils that relaxed hair is deprived of, so synthetics can be added to the products to make relaxed hair look alive whereas natural hair products are formulated to maintain what your hair naturally produces.
*Caution. There have been instances where a product line will make products for relaxed hair or natural hair, but in reading the label, it is the same product because it contains the same ingredients as other products.
Excessive Coloring. If you color your hair often or add highlights and/or bleach your hair, you can truly damage your hair to the point of no return. Color, especially unnaturally lighter colors, can strip the hair of its integrity, making it weak, brittle, thin and limp. Recovering from color damage most often results in cutting the color off and starting over.
Over Manipulation. You can comb and brush your hair too much and you can wash it too often. If you are constantly in your hair and you don’t see much of a change in length, you may be in your hair too much. Wearing protective styles can remedy that. Also using too much heat can severely damage your hair, and possibly straighten the hair permanently, making it impossible to revert to natural curls. Heat damaged hair should be trimmed away.
